My gardening career to date has been quite varied. I have had an interest in gardening from a very young age but started gardening professionally after being made redundant from a technical sales role.
My first gardening job was for a small firm in Surrey. My colleagues were all RHS trained plantsmen and I learned so much from them, maintaining some prestigious gardens around Surrey and West London. I then went into partnership with a friend (who had over ten years landscape gardening experience) and we designed and built a number of small domestic gardens in West London, Surrey and Middlesex. I then struck out on my own with a small business: planting large gardens for two Chelsea Gold Medal winning garden designers, designing and building gardens to my own design (both domestic and public) and maintaining a number of gardens too. I escaped London in 2009.
Most recently I have been employed as Head Gardener for a large garden near the coast in Dorset. The house had undergone significant renovations and the garden was
mainly laid to lawn and was quite bland and uninspired. During my tenure at the garden I completed extensive fencing projects, both rustic and more formal, deer-proofing the whole garden; designed and commissioned the building of some unique gates; re-instated lawns after significant building works; overseen the management of the woodland including establishing a productive woodland area; and designed and planted vibrant borders.
I now find myself freelancing. I am particularly interested in finding large borders to design and plant; interesting fences and gates to design and build; garden buildings to design and construct; to use my talent and push it further.
